Attendees will hear firsthand from industry experts about how water moves in soil and how soil moisture sensors are used to monitor water. Our opening speaker, Dr. Paul Anamosa (Vineyard Soil Technologies), will discuss the effects of different soil features on water movement and plant water availability. Keith Backman (Dellavalle Laboratories) will then discuss methods to test salts in soil and irrigation water, and how those results are interpreted with respect to irrigation scheduling. Dr. Mark Greenspan (Advanced Viticulture) will follow with a presentation on using data from soil moisture sensors to fine tune irrigation scheduling.
Our tailgate will then move into the field for hands-on demonstration of proper placement of soil sensors and industry panel discussion by consultants including Dr. Mark Greenspan (Advanced Viticulture), Dan Rodriguez (Vina Quest), Dr. Lowell Zelinski (Precision Ag Consulting), and Dr. Alan Campbell (SmartVineyards) who will share their experience with each of the sensor types.
This program is presented in partnership with the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF).
Online registration has closed for this tailgate. If you are interested in attending, please call the Vineyard Team office at 805-466-2288.
