From the Fields to Fresno CSU
This year, you helped Kristal with your gift to the Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholarship.
Starting her second year at college, she wrote us to us to say,
“I wanted to share some exciting news: I’ve been accepted into the Kinesiology exercise science program and have committed to it! I’m really grateful and feel like my hard work has paid off. I’ve also started a physical therapy club, and it’s been a lot of fun. We get to meet physical therapists who are current students or alumni from Fresno, and they share their experiences with us.”
Kristal is attending California State University-Fresno. With a stellar GPA of 3.9, her dedication to her studies is evident through her outstanding transcripts, impeccable attendance, and glowing recommendations from her teachers.
At the start of the semester, a psychological test highlighted her natural leadership and teamwork abilities, coupled with a genuine passion for helping others. These qualities perfectly position her for careers in social work, teaching, nursing, and counseling.
Kristal's practical skills are equally noteworthy. She has quickly mastered taking vital signs, performing bacteriology tasks, and teaching her peers, excelling both in collaborative settings and individual work. Her exceptional time management allows her to juggle various responsibilities while maintaining high performance.
During the summer of 2024, she worked alongside her parents in their vineyard and faced the challenge of mildew-affected grapes due to unexpected rain. Despite the arduous pruning process, she embraced the experience as an opportunity to learn.
In the fall, Kristal immersed herself in Biology, Chicano Studies, Psychology, Political Science, and Death Studies, with plans to delve deeper into science in the new year as she contemplates a major in Kinesiology or Viticulture. She also plans to reapply for a Student Instructor position and join the Physical Therapy Club.
By supporting students like Kristal, you can help nurture future leaders who will make a difference in their communities and beyond.
Stay tuned for more updates from Krystal and more of our scholars.
